Local SEO and Google Maps Ranking for Local Businesses

Google shows three businesses in the map pack. Everyone else is a scroll away and effectively invisible. We get you into those three for the searches that actually turn into work, then we show you which searches produced the calls.

Free 30 minute call. We audit your local visibility before we get on it. No obligation.

The Real Problem

There Are Only Three Spots. You Are Competing for a Seat, Not for Traffic.

When somebody searches for what you do near where they are, Google returns a map with three businesses on it. That is the whole shortlist. Ranking fourth is not a near miss, it is the same as not being there. Most local businesses lose this without ever knowing the auction happened.

  • Competitors with worse reviews are above you. Google is not scoring quality. It is scoring proximity, relevance and prominence signals that nobody has set up on your side
  • Your profile ranks for the wrong jobs. You show up for cheap callouts and never for the work with margin in it
  • You rank at your own address and nowhere else. Two suburbs over you disappear, and that is where half your service area lives
  • You cannot tell what is working. Rankings move, the phone does not, and nobody connects the two
How It Actually Works

What Decides Who Gets Into the Map Pack

Local ranking is not the same thing as website SEO, which is why agencies that only do websites struggle with it. Google weighs three things, and only two of them are in your control.

Proximity

How close you are to the person searching. You cannot change your address, but you can change how far your visibility reaches with service area pages and location relevance.

Partly in your control

Relevance

How well your profile and site match what was typed. Categories, services, descriptions and on page content decide whether Google thinks you do that specific job.

Fully in your control

Prominence

How established you look. Reviews, citations, consistent business details across the web, and links from places that matter locally.

Fully in your control

Two of the three are work you can actually do. That is the whole opportunity, and it is why a smaller business with a properly built profile regularly outranks a bigger one that never bothered.

What We Do

Six Parts of a Local SEO Engagement

All six run together. Citations without a properly built profile do very little, and a perfect profile in a service area you never targeted does less.

Google Business Profile Optimization

The listing Google shows before your website, built around the jobs you want rather than everything you do.

  • Google Business Profile optimization
  • Profile optimization for conversions
  • Review optimization strategy
  • Categories and services built for intent

Google Maps and Map Pack Ranking

Getting you into the local three pack across your whole service area, not only at your own address.

  • Google Maps SEO optimization
  • Local map ranking improvement
  • Location based keyword targeting
  • Local ranking signals optimization

Local SEO Audit

Where you rank now, who is beating you, and exactly why. This is what the free audit covers before you commit to anything.

  • Local SEO audit report
  • Technical local SEO analysis
  • Competitor local SEO insights
  • Google listing performance review

Local SEO Strategy

Which searches to chase, in which suburbs, in what order. Mapped to the jobs with margin rather than the biggest volume.

  • Local keyword research
  • Local SEO strategy planning
  • Local ranking factors optimization
  • Conversion focused strategy

Citations and Listings

Consistent business details everywhere Google checks. Unglamorous, and one of the most common reasons rankings stall.

  • Local citations building
  • Business listings SEO
  • NAP consistency optimization
  • Directory submissions and cleanup

Reviews and Reputation

Reviews are a ranking signal and the deciding factor once you are visible. We build a system for earning them, not a campaign.

  • Google reviews strategy
  • Local reputation management
  • Review response handling
  • Review velocity over time

How We Report Local Rankings

This is a real GeoGrid report from our local SEO work. Each point on the grid is a physical location in the service area, and the colour is where the business ranks if somebody searches from that exact spot.

Green means top three. Red means invisible. Our job is turning red zones green across the whole area you actually serve, and this is how we prove whether it happened rather than asking you to trust a rankings number.

  • You see the map, not a score. Coverage across your service area, month over month
  • It shows where you are losing. Not just where you are already winning
  • It ties to calls. Google Business Profile insights alongside the grid

Where local SEO is the wrong tool

If any of these is you, local SEO is not where your money should go first.

  • You sell nationally with no service area
  • Ecommerce with no local component
  • You are not eligible for a Google Business Profile
  • You have no capacity to take more calls
We will tell you this on the call rather than three months in
How It Fits

Local SEO Gets You Found. Social Gets You Chosen.

Local SEO puts you in front of someone who has already decided to hire. What happens next is a trust check. They open your profile, read the reviews, then look at your social accounts to see whether your work looks like their job. Running both is what closes the gap between ranking and being called.

Questions

Local SEO Questions, Answered Straight

How long does local SEO take to work?

Google Business Profile changes can move within the first 30 days. Meaningful map pack movement across a service area usually takes 60 to 90 days. Anyone promising the three pack in two weeks is either guessing or working in a market with no competition.

How much does local SEO cost?

Our plans start at 299 dollars a month with no setup fees and no long term contract. What you pay depends on how many service areas you are targeting, how bad the citation situation is, and whether social or paid runs alongside. The pricing page lists what is in each plan.

What is the difference between local SEO and normal SEO?

Normal SEO is about ranking web pages. Local SEO is about ranking your business in the map pack, which is scored differently. Proximity, categories, reviews and consistent business details matter more than blog content. Agencies that only do website SEO often underperform here for exactly that reason.

Do you guarantee a number one ranking or a spot in the map pack?

No, and nobody honestly can. Rankings depend on proximity to the searcher and on competitors we do not control. What we guarantee is delivery. If we fail to deliver the services set out in your plan within the first 30 days you get a full refund.

Will this work if I have no shopfront and work from home?

Yes. That is a service area business and Google supports it. You hide the address and define the areas you cover instead. It changes the strategy, because proximity is working against you, so service area relevance and prominence signals carry more weight.

Do you need access to my Google Business Profile?

Yes, manager access. You keep ownership at all times and you can remove our access whenever you want. We never ask you to transfer ownership of your profile to us.

My business details are wrong in a lot of places online. Is that a problem?

It is one of the most common reasons rankings stall. Inconsistent name, address and phone details across directories make Google less confident about your business. Cleaning that up is part of the citations work and it is usually the least glamorous, highest return task in the whole engagement.

Can you do local SEO for more than one location?

Yes. Multi location work needs a separate profile and a separate location page per location, and the strategy has to stop them competing with each other. We will tell you on the call whether your setup is doing that now.

Find Out Where You Actually Rank

We will run a GeoGrid on your service area and show you which suburbs you are invisible in. 24 hour turnaround, and the audit is yours whether you hire us or not.
